Smartwool Versa-T - Seven Long Years!

Seven years ago Rusted Moon Outfitters opened in my neighborhood. As a small businessman and supporter of small business I shop regularly at Rusted Moon. Their product line, breadth and depth of knowledge are rarely if ever matched even in areas of the country where this gear is used on a daily basis.

When Rusted Moon first opened I special ordered a Smartwoll top called the Versa-T. 99% of my outdoor apparel is black so naturally I chose the Black Versa-T. Going out on a limb I chose a style that had charcoal grey color blocks down both sids. This top has been my favorite top to date for the past seven years. In Winter the Smartwool Versa-T has seen wash cycles three to four times a week. Only in the past year has the Versa-T even begun to really show any wear.

The Versa-T is all wook and breaths very well. The 1/4 zip design allows for "stove-piping" of the cadet collar to adjust warm very quickly. The wook resists odor and maintains its warmth when wet. This is huge in cold weather. People often forget that if you get wet and are wearing polypropelene you will get cold.

Other Smartwool items in my arsenal include: Short Sleeve T-Shirts (indespensible), Black Dress Socks, "Ragg" Wool Hiking Socks, Heavy Hiking Socks, Hicking Liners, Snowboard Socks, Biking Socks, Ski Socks, 1/4 zip tops, long underwear bottoms, glove liners, spring ski gloves, and running socks. I actually don't wear any socks other than Smartwool and have not for the past decade.

Kayak, canoe and StandUp Paddleboard Demo

The good folks at Rusted Moon Outfitters are hosting their 7th annual on water demo and canoe/kayak sale. One of the new interesting items featured for on water demos is a Standup Paddleboard (SUP) as it is referred to. The SUP is similar to a surfboard that you standup on and paddle.

The event and sale taking place at the White River put-in at the Indianapolis Arts Center and Rusted Moon Outfiiters respectively, takes place May 8, 9 & 10th. Bring your mom out for an on water demo May 10th. I'm sure that would be a surprise.

I'm interested in paddling more regularly, but as with all outdoor activities as you get older the available mates to paddle with are limited. I'm finding to stay active outdoors I repeatedly am making new "younger" friends. Perhaps this is my harvesting of the "youth is wasted on the young" statement. I'm sorry for those of you married and with kids, but I'd never give up my outdoor activities by settling for a mate or spouse who isn't active. We'll leave that one alone now.

Here you can see outdoor enthusiast Pete Kail readying a kayak for an on-water demo. Anyway I'm off to try out the SUP and a few kayaks. I'm learning towards a Current Design Whistler or Breeze. I'll be back with a report and some images later. Enjoy!
